Test Trailer
My first version of my film trailer is almost complete, with this in mind I took the portunity to make the almost finished version and turn it into a video file and upload it to YouTube.

Also as part of my evaluation after the product stage is complete I will be creating a blooper video to explain how shots don't always go as planned but do make the filming stage more fun and complected as changes and or re-shoots are required. With this in mind I have also placed some of the blooper reel footage on this version of the trailer so I know what to use when I create said blooper reel.
An error I have performed in posting the video is that I have placed some of the useable shots performed by my main actor, these are placed before the bloopers.

Editing software
For my A2 media coursework the use of an editing system was required, the college uses an Adobe software for the editing of all A2 coursework. However I decided that I was going to use my own software and camera, this allowed me to have the freedom to do any filming and editing when and where I wanted due to my editing software, Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0, being on my laptop.
One issue I had to overcome by using my own software was that I have never used any editing software besides the standard Windows Movie Maker, this meant that I had to learn how to use this software and I went by this by using common sense but when that was not enough I had to use the help tool to give me advice.
However this was not always useful, but I searched the index that comes with my editing software and found out the information I needed, by doing this I was able to learn the tools and techniques I needed and was able to develop my coursework and improve my skills with editing to a new level through tools and experimentation.
This image shows my coursework, version 1, when it was nearly finished and as you can see I have 19 different tracks in use which all work together to create this film trailer.

Cast Release Forms
For legal use of another persons image I require a cast release form, this is signed by the acting party stating that I have permission to use their image.
The reason why it appears that no numbers have been written on to the release forms is because in the matter of security I have edited them out so that no one on the internet could use these numbers to harass any of the actors or director.

Shooting Scheduled
To properly manage when I require my actors for filming I, with them, have arranged appropriate times for both me and them to film the required shots. I have then placed the information into the table below for my own organisation and reference.
by creating this schedule I now have an organised way of knowing when and where shoot, but also if necessary when I am able to use my main actor.

Test Shot analysis
To make my film trailer I need to know how to create the
various parts that will make up my trailer, this will include; special effects,
sound effects and the managing of sound tracks. To make sure what I plan to
create is all with in my capabilities I have created a test video of various
shots to test if they function as they should and where any changes should be
made when it comes to creating the film trailer.
Testing
|
Time in test video
|
Did it function properly?
|
What should I change?
|
Extended sound track
|
00:00 - 01:41
|
Yes the track did perform with great precision and all changes
between tracks were subtle and were not too sudden, except one.
|
At 01:02 the track changed to another section and the change was too
sudden as it is supposed to be a subtle change at this point, so I will amend
this error for the final version.
|
Using FX effects
|
00:10 – 00:12
|
Yes the effect did work and was fully functional with no errors.
|
There is nothing to change, however the effect may want to be more
carefully placed on the shot/image used.
|
Syncing sound to FX effect
|
00:22 – 00:26
|
Yes and no, the effects and sound synced on the first effect but not
the second. And the effects showed a border that made them less convincing.
|
I will place sound effects more carefully when using them with
effects and make sure that all FX are used in the correct position and not within
a border.
|
Green screen effect
|
00:28 - 00:34
|
Yes, there were no errors with the green screen effect.
|
There were no errors but the background was slightly too bright compared
to the actor so a slight change in the brightness of the green screen effect
would improve the effect.
|
Voice and sound comparison
|
00:28 – 00:34
|
No, the track was muted during the voice.
|
I will move the voice track further down to its own sound bar in the
editing suit which should make all sounds play without error.
|
By completing this test of certain shots I now know to take
more care when creating these effects/shots and make certain changes that will
allow the trailer to perform correctly and have no issues making it appear more
professional.

Target Audience
My demographics showed that;
- 57% were from Hull
- 71% were aged 16 – 20
- 57% were male
- 33% were of social class A
- 33% were of social class E
My psycho-graphics showed;
- 85% mostly enjoyed the action adventure genre
- 100% enjoyed a fast paced trailer
- 33% preferred a narrative in the trailer
The data I have gathered shows how the target market is of a
younger generation who like quick action filled trailers that detail what is
happening.

Animatic
I have created a rough version of my planned trailer, I have done this so I can see how well my video performs with the music and to see how the shots fare out. One main issue I have had during the creation of this animatic is the music within it, this is because since I am creating a film trailer I had to create my own track to play to my video and this took many hours of; music research, clipping out useful parts and collating the tracks into the perfect track for my video.
as you can see in my animatic I have used many different tracks that make the music of the trailer unique, from examining my animatic I can see that i require a few more shots to make it a more appropriate length for my coursework.
over the course of creating this animatic i have enjoyed the many hours I have spent creating the track I have used in the video and have learnt how difficult it can be and now know how to face these situations in the future.

Music tracks
Since I have decided to create a film trailer whilst majority of my class have chosen a music video I had the disadvantage that I did not know what music tracks to use, with this issue I had to find useful tracks that will work with my trailer and I searched YouTube and the internet and found some interesting tracks.
The music tracks my media teacher, John Hamlin, aided me in acquiring are;
Two Steps From Hell - Heart of Courage (Extended Version)
Two Steps From Hell – Archangel
This image shows I have indeed found some music tracks I will be using in my film trailer as you can see i have noted out certain parts of each track. this is because I have singled out the parts i like the most and that are the type of music i am looking for to create the mood i am aiming to create.

Deconstruction and reconstruction Evaluation
During the creation of my groups reconstruction of the “Made
in England” music video we had run into issues, to solve these various issues
we worked as a team to overcome them. During this evaluation I will be
explaining how we re-created the music video, made certain choices that link to
the representation we were trying to achieve and as a team worked together to
create the music video we have created.
This
shot was taken for the beginning of the music video, an issue we had when we
came to this section of the music video was in a urban street. My group did not
have access to such a setting so we had to make a compromise, to overcome this issue
we decided to use a similar setting nearby which gave the same appearance as
the original.
One main problem our group faced was the use of an extended
fade effect; we had no idea on how to re-create this effect. To solve this
problem we decided to ask for aid from the media technician who told us how to
create the effect, after receiving this piece of knowledge we then had to work
together to make the right adjustments to the settings so that the effect
worked on the right level for the music video to be a closer re-construction. Through
the path to resolving this issue we had to work together and this allowed us to
communicate our opinions to each other and thus be able to recreate this effect
in our music video as a team.
One shot that was
very problematic was the shot at the 16 second mark, this is because the
weather had took a turn making heavy rain and moderate wind to interfere with
the camera as we tried to record our shot. During our music video you will be
able to see that our camera rocks during filming, in the original video the
camera uses a steady pan to follow the performer whilst in our recreation this
shot was shaking during the pan. We had to bear on and make the shot work, to
make the best shot that we could we made sure everyone knew what they were
doing to try and make a “one shot take” where we acquire the shot we required
in one attempt. The shot was filmed and served its purpose very well in our
reconstruction.
Over the course of this project I have learnt that creating
a music video that lasts 30 seconds is a arduous task indeed, because the
amount of time we spend recording useful shots so our music video
reconstruction could be made we had spent over three hours recording shots. Considering
that the task was to create a 30 second reconstruction and it took us over 3
hours to acquire the shots it shows that creating a video takes time and
patience to acquire the shots and to edit the footage to create what we are
trying to achieve. When I start to create my film trailer I will remember the
skills I have learnt during this project and now have a better understanding of
how I will have to approach the creation period of my film trailer.

Film trailer story board
This is the story board for my film trailer for the self-created film "Adventurous", from this story board I will be creating my film trailer based on the base idea's I have already thought of. The idea's created in this first draft are not permanent but I will be using this story board plan to create the final version of the film trailer from the foundations of my idea's which have all been used to create this first story board plan. This rough draft of my film trailer is the foundations of the final version I will have created by the end of the course.

Audience feedback trailers and questions, Part 2 of 2
The following videos are of the interviews I conducted to find out which aspects of the three chosen film trailers were the best and most effective, by knowing these I would have the knowledge to create a very effective trailer.
Film Trailer 1
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - Trailer 1
Film Trailer 2
The Mummy (1999) - Movie Trailer
Film Trailer 3
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade Film Trailer
This interview with my media teacher was very useful as I obtained useful information about what he liked and also received useful information that only a media teacher could give.
The first year student interviews were useful because of the information I received from two members of the public who do not do any studies related to analyzing media texts meaning the feed back I obtained was as close to general view as I could receive information that was more useful in terms of what my target audience like to see.
The information I have obtained from conducting these interviews has given me useful knowledge of what my audience would like to see in my trailer and what aspects I should create to make my trailer very effective for the purpose of making the film look appealing.

Deconstruction and Reconstruction of a media text
My group have been given the task of deconstructing then reconstructing a chosen media text of our choice, to do this we then decided out the storyboards we had already created to chose which video we would make as our media text.
My team consists of;
My team consists of;
- Poppy Elgey - Director
- Beth Fell - Camera Woman
- Hannah Burton - Editor
- Benn Green - Camera Man/Editor/Cast
- Scott Davies - Producer/Cast
- Peter Holderness - Editor/Camera Man
The chosen media text is "Missing Andy - The Way Were Made (Made in England)", and we have decided to create the first 30 seconds of the first minute of the music video.
Although I am creating a film trailer and not a music video, this project serves as a good practice to get me acquainted with the tasks I will have to perform to create both this music video and my film trailer.
