Target Audience

My demographics showed that;
  •     57% were from Hull
  •     71% were aged 16 – 20
  •     57% were male
  •         33% were of social class A
  •     33% were of social class E

My psycho-graphics showed;
  •     85% mostly enjoyed the action adventure genre
  •    100% enjoyed a fast paced trailer
  •     33% preferred a narrative in the trailer

The data I have gathered shows how the target market is of a younger generation who like quick action filled trailers that detail what is happening.

Animatic

I have created a rough version of my planned trailer, I have done this so I can see how well my video performs with the music and to see how the shots fare out. One main issue I have had during the creation of this animatic is the music within it, this is because since I am creating a film trailer I had to create my own track to play to my video and this took many hours of; music research, clipping out useful parts and collating the tracks into the perfect track for my video.

as you can see in my animatic I have used many different tracks that make the music of the trailer unique, from examining my animatic I can see that i require a few more shots to make it a more appropriate length for my coursework.

over the course of creating this animatic i have enjoyed the many hours I have spent creating the track I have used in the video and have learnt how difficult it can be and now know how to face these situations in the future.

Music tracks

Since I have decided to create a film trailer whilst majority of my class have chosen a music video I had the disadvantage that I did not know what music tracks to use, with this issue I had to find useful tracks that will work with my trailer and I searched YouTube and the internet and found some interesting tracks.
This image shows I have indeed found some music tracks I will be using in my film trailer  as you can see i have noted out certain parts of each track. this is because I have singled out the parts i like the most and that are the type of music i am looking for to create the mood i am aiming to create.

The music tracks my media teacher, John Hamlin, aided me in acquiring are;

Two Steps From Hell - Heart of Courage (Extended Version)

Two Steps From Hell – Archangel

Two Steps From Hell - Dragon Rider : The Old Republic Cinematic Trailer [HD]

Two Steps From Hell - To Glory

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim - Theme Song

Deconstruction and reconstruction Evaluation

During the creation of my groups reconstruction of the “Made in England” music video we had run into issues, to solve these various issues we worked as a team to overcome them. During this evaluation I will be explaining how we re-created the music video, made certain choices that link to the representation we were trying to achieve and as a team worked together to create the music video we have created.

This shot was taken for the beginning of the music video, an issue we had when we came to this section of the music video was in a urban street. My group did not have access to such a setting so we had to make a compromise, to overcome this issue we decided to use a similar setting nearby which gave the same appearance as the original.

One main problem our group faced was the use of an extended fade effect; we had no idea on how to re-create this effect. To solve this problem we decided to ask for aid from the media technician who told us how to create the effect, after receiving this piece of knowledge we then had to work together to make the right adjustments to the settings so that the effect worked on the right level for the music video to be a closer re-construction. Through the path to resolving this issue we had to work together and this allowed us to communicate our opinions to each other and thus be able to recreate this effect in our music video as a team.

One shot that was very problematic was the shot at the 16 second mark, this is because the weather had took a turn making heavy rain and moderate wind to interfere with the camera as we tried to record our shot. During our music video you will be able to see that our camera rocks during filming, in the original video the camera uses a steady pan to follow the performer whilst in our recreation this shot was shaking during the pan. We had to bear on and make the shot work, to make the best shot that we could we made sure everyone knew what they were doing to try and make a “one shot take” where we acquire the shot we required in one attempt. The shot was filmed and served its purpose very well in our reconstruction.

Over the course of this project I have learnt that creating a music video that lasts 30 seconds is a arduous task indeed, because the amount of time we spend recording useful shots so our music video reconstruction could be made we had spent over three hours recording shots. Considering that the task was to create a 30 second reconstruction and it took us over 3 hours to acquire the shots it shows that creating a video takes time and patience to acquire the shots and to edit the footage to create what we are trying to achieve. When I start to create my film trailer I will remember the skills I have learnt during this project and now have a better understanding of how I will have to approach the creation period of my film trailer.

Film trailer story board

This is the story board for my film trailer for the self-created film "Adventurous", from this story board I will be creating my film trailer based on the base idea's I have already thought of. The idea's created in this first draft are not permanent but I will be using this story board plan to create the final version of the film trailer from the foundations of my idea's which have all been used to create this first story board plan. This rough draft of my film trailer is the foundations of the final version I will have created by the end of the course.

Audience feedback trailers and questions, Part 2 of 2

The following videos are of the interviews I conducted to find out which aspects of the three chosen film trailers were the best and most effective, by knowing these I would have the knowledge to create a very effective trailer.

Film Trailer 1
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - Trailer 1

                                                                      Film Trailer 2
The Mummy (1999) - Movie Trailer

Film Trailer 3
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade Film Trailer

This interview with my media teacher was very useful as I obtained useful information about what he liked and also received useful information that only a media teacher could give.

The first year student interviews were useful because of the information I received from two members of the public who do not do any studies related to analyzing media texts meaning the feed back I obtained was as close to general view as I could receive information that was more useful in terms of what my target audience like to see.

The information I have obtained from conducting these interviews has given me useful knowledge of what  my audience would like to see in my trailer and what aspects I should create to make my trailer very effective for the purpose of making the film look appealing.

Deconstruction and Reconstruction of a media text

My group have been given the task of deconstructing then reconstructing a chosen media text of our choice, to do this we then decided out the storyboards we had already created to chose which video we would make as our media text.

My team consists of;
  • Poppy Elgey - Director
  • Beth Fell - Camera Woman
  • Hannah Burton - Editor
  • Benn Green - Camera Man/Editor/Cast
  • Scott Davies - Producer/Cast
  • Peter Holderness - Editor/Camera Man
The chosen media text is "Missing Andy - The Way Were Made (Made in England)", and we have decided to create the first 30 seconds of the first minute of the music video.

Although I am creating a film trailer and not a music video, this project serves as a good practice to get me acquainted with the tasks I will have to perform to create both this music video and my film trailer.
